Warsaw, Poland – June 12, 2022 – 11 bit studios, acclaimed creators of This War of Mine and Frostpunk, proudly unveil their latest original IP: The Alters — a deep, narrative-driven survival experience centered around identity, regret, and the choices that shape us.
Rooted in 11 bit’s philosophy of “meaningful entertainment,” The Alters poses a profound question: What if your life had taken a different path? What if you’d pursued a different education, chosen another career, or made a split-second decision another way? Through an emotionally charged sci-fi lens, The Alters explores how those tiny moments of decision can ripple into radically different versions of the self.
At the heart of the game is Jan Dolski, an ordinary worker who crash-lands on a distant, hostile planet. Stranded and alone in a deadly environment, Jan’s only chance of survival lies in turning to the one person he can trust: himself. But not just himself — multiple alternate versions of who he could have been.
“These are not clones. They are alters — distinct versions of Jan shaped by different life choices,” explains Tomasz Kisilewicz, Game Director of The Alters. “Each alter has unique skills, perspectives, and personalities. Players will need to manage and care for all of them, navigating complex interpersonal dynamics while trying to stay alive.”
Driven by a story-rich structure and classic science fiction sensibilities, The Alters encourages players to reflect on identity and agency while grappling with survival mechanics and emotional decision-making. It’s an experience where crafting a base is just the beginning — the real challenge lies in crafting the selves you choose to live with.
Developed using Unreal Engine and helmed by a veteran internal team — including key talent behind This War of Mine — The Alters has been in development for nearly three years.
