Sony and Sucker Punch Productions have released a powerful new story trailer for Ghost of Yōtei, titled “The Onryō’s List,” shedding light on protagonist Atsu’s haunting past and the brutal journey ahead. Set 16 years after a horrific betrayal, the trailer reveals how a violent gang known as The Yōtei Six murdered her family and left her impaled and burning beneath a ginkgo tree—an execution she miraculously survived.
Now, armed with the very katana that once pinned her to death, Atsu returns to the northern frontier of Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) with one goal: vengeance. Each of the six names on her list marks a path toward justice in a story that blends myth, trauma, and retribution.
The trailer also offers a glimpse at expanded gameplay mechanics that deepen both exploration and narrative immersion. Players will unlock memories from Atsu’s past, revealing the personal toll of the Yōtei Six’s crimes. In a departure from traditional linear storytelling, Ghost of Yōtei grants players the freedom to choose which target to hunt first, all while taking on bounties, acquiring new skills, and uncovering secrets across a vast, living world.
With a greater sense of agency and refined world traversal, Sucker Punch aims to evolve the open-world samurai formula it popularized with Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Yōtei launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025. Sucker Punch has confirmed more gameplay and story details will be revealed in the months leading up to release.
